Rhodes, Colony of Italy

It is very mountianous. Rhodes is an island in the Aegean Sea. The island is said to be "spear head shaped",mountianious and covered with pine tree forests.


Farming and growing crops are Rhodes's main product. They grow ornamental trees, schrubs, sweet corn, potatoes, apples, and sod. They are also popular for thier livestock and fishing products. They sell beef cattle, hogs, chickens, honey, fish, mollusks, lobster, shellfish, anglerfish, clams, cod, flounder, scup, squid, and yellowfish. Rhodes is also a good place to mine stone, gravel, and sand.

Natural Resources:

Rhodes has many natural resources. The island has alot of forests, an exports pine trees. Rhodes is known for forestry. The beaches have crystal clear water. Rhodes is known for mining because of thier deep caves. The mines have stone, gravel, and sand.


Rhodes is probably most known for the Colossus of Rhodes. It is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It was built to worship Helios, the sun god.
During the summer months there are many religious festivals.Children are welcomed anywhere they go in Rhodes. Legs and shoulders should be covered to not offend the church.

Why Colonize?

Italy decide to take control of Rhodes because Rhodes had a weaker social, economic, and political life. This helped Italy, as a more dominant country, to become even more powerful. Rhodes also had many natural resources that were helpful to Italy to start a new market.

Positive Effects of Imperialism on Rhodes:

  • A new market was started which helped Rhodes's economy.
  • New technology was introduced to the culture.
  • New cultures, languages, and lifestyles were also introduced.

Negative Effects of Imperialism on Rhodes:

  • Rhodes lost some of it's own culture in the process.
  • Racism and Social Darwinism were also started during this time.
  • New diseases were brought over to Rhodes.
